About Ghanaian Women's Association

The Ghanaian Women's Association of Georgia (G-WAG) is a registered non-profit organization, which serves as an umbrella organization of Ghanaian women in Georgia..

The group is made up of progressive women who are passionate about bringing change and development within our communities. We share the belief that when a woman is empowered, she invests her knowledge and resources in her children, family and eventually, her community. Our philosophy is derived from the famous Ghanaian proverb that: "when you educate a man, you educate an individual, but when you educate a woman, you educate a nation."

Our mission is to establish a thriving, engaged and visible Ghanaian community in Georgia. Drawing strength from our resources and diversity, we seek to provide a platform for meaningful discussions and the exchange of ideas geared towards sustaining personal and community development.

Our key objectives can be defined within the following categories:

Networking and Business Development - Succeeding in today’s business world is not only about what you know, but also whom you know and who knows you. The Ghanaian Women’s Association of Georgia (G-WAG) was formed to provide opportunities for networking among women professionals and business owners. When you join, you automatically become a member of a ready-made professional network with unlimited potential for expanding your own network of contacts.

Community Service - The Association is project-oriented and supports community developmental initiatives and activities to improve lives within our communities in Ghana in the areas of children’s and women's welfare, health and education. Members of G-WAG are part of a diverse group of female entrepreneurs and professionals working together to address socio-economic needs within the communities we hail from. We always encourage our members to use their occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

Cultural Education - G-WAG believes in promoting our rich and diverse culture among our youth in the diaspora as well as facilitating cultural exchanges between Ghana and USA youth through strategically designed programs. As a group, we believe that the most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. Through such exposure, the world becomes a smaller and friendlier place. Our Youth Exchange program provides American youth the opportunity to meet people from Ghana and vice versa to experience their respective cultures.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ghanaian Women’s Association of Georgia (G-WAG) is to serve as an umbrella organization of Ghanaian women in Georgia to promote development among its members and the entire community.

Our main objectives are to:

Gather resources from members and donors to support developmental initiatives in our communities
Promote opportunities for entrepreneurship of Women
Promote and integrate our rich and diverse culture among our youth in the diaspora

Facilitate inter-cultural interactions between American youth and the youth in Ghana
Work with women's and children’s organizations to support developmental initiatives

The Association seeks to fulfill its objectives by:

Encouraging each member to use her profession and skills to serve society
Soliciting funds and resources from the community in support of developmental initiatives
Engaging in revenue generating programs to fund projects
