ADDITIONAL G-WAG PROGRAMS
Adopt a Hospital Each year the Association selects a hospital in Ghana through a raffle draw, to donate medical supplies and equipment. We engage in partnerships with organizations such as MedShare International to make this possible. If you wish to donate supplies, please contact us.
Clothes Drive: During Christmas and other special occasions, we launch a special drive to collect toys, clothing and candy to donate to orphanages. We are always in need of such supplies so please contact us if have items to donate. We appreciate your support.
No Girl Left Behind: G-WAG emphasizes education as the fundamental building block of economic and community development. Literacy rates in Ghana are 58 percent for females and 80 percent for males and it costs a family approximately $38 U.S./year to send a child to primary school, $50/year for junior secondary school (JSS), and $200/year for senior secondary school (SSS). Traditionally, girls are the last to go to school and the first to be taken out because their families rely so heavily on them for chores – gathering wood for cooking, preparing meals, hauling water, caring for siblings, doing laundry, and working with a parent to augment household income.
Through strategic partnerships with orphanages and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Ghana, we sponsor orphans and other disadvantaged but gifted girls by funding the cost of their education. We believe that education should be a right for all children and not a privilege. Our local contact in Ghana provides regular feedback on the progress of the sponsored children through school report cards, letters and photographs.
